2012 is a very special year for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk as they celebrate 15 years of MoonWalking on Saturday 12th May in Hyde Park, London.
Over 17,000 women and men will be ‘Rockin around the World’, as they take on their chosen challenge wearing beautifully decorated bras, the trademark of the charity. Hyde Park will be transformed into a ‘Rock and Roll’ extravaganza as the footsteps of Power Walkers come together and unite against breast cancer at midnight by doing a marathon or half marathon.
Organised by grant making breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk, The MoonWalk London raises funds to support research into breast cancer and organisations which provide emotional and physical support for those living with cancer now. Walk the Walk is also passionate about encouraging women and men to become healthier through Power Walking and taking responsibility for their own well-being.
Nina Barough, the Founder and Chief Executive of the charity comments:
“How exciting to be actually celebrating 15 years of MoonWalking, when the first MoonWalk took place, it was meant to be a one off fundraising event, I never dreamt for a moment that it would be the small beginning of a multi million pound charity that would achieve so much. Many of our walkers come back every year, and we also have many that are new to Walk the Walk, but what is certain is that they are all passionate to help us succeed. As a result they have played their part in making some really big changes to the way people are treated and cared for whilst undergoing their breast cancer treatment. I can’t wait for May 12th...its going to be quite a night...we really are going to be Rockin’ around the World!”
“This year is a very special year for Walk the Walk as we celebrate 15 years of MoonWalking in London. We welcome back past walkers and are delighted to see so many new ones. Everyone is here uniting for the same cause, breast cancer. Over the years we have been lucky enough to raise enough funds to support many breast cancer causes. We can only do this as people out there are putting one foot in front of the other. We have a lot that we want to achieve so we hope to make this year a fundraising best!”
Even though The MoonWalk London is full there is still an opportunity for people to come and ‘Rock’ with Walk the Walk by registering as a Volunteer. This amazing event could not take place without these wonderful people! The volunteer activities include marshalling, cycle marshalling, driving, running water stations, distributing food, water and blankets, registering and equipping volunteers, organising baggage tents, awarding medals at the finish line and much, much more!
