The team!

The team!

We have always had close links with the Bristol because of our SunWalk and it was good to be back. The day started a little cloudy but luckily no rain as the team of 50 walkers gathered together in the Penny Brohn tent at 8am on Sunday morning.Members of our team came from all over the UK and we also had two ladies who had flown in from Sweden; we also had a good mix of those who had walked with us before and those that had not.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!

It was also a special day for Julia as she celebrated her birthday that morning and in true Walk the Walk style we woke up all the other competitors with a loud rendition of "Happy Birthday!" After a team tactics talk by Nina she took us through a warm up that soon had everyone removing jackets, fleeces and t-shirts. The bras were fantastic! A short walk and we were at the back of the 10,000 runners all waiting to start. More singing and more stretching and we were away. The first few miles passed very quickly and we were soon heading out of Bristol and underneath the suspension bridge. It was great to see that everyone had trained and were determined to finish in the time specified by the organisers of 3 hours.

Pwer Walking through Bristol

As we approached 4 miles the course doubled back on its self and there were lots of cheers and noise as the Walk the Walk team pounded on past the spectators. At 8 miles we were back into the city centre as the route lead us on a winding tour past all the sites; the sun had finally come out and we were all starting to feel the heat.

Well done!

The final few miles then flew by and before too long we could see the finish line - it was fantastic to finish and get our well deserved medal. Congratulations to everyone - Bristol is always a great challenge and this year was no different!
