What a night! WOOO!

The weather held and Scotland did us proud as the fourth MoonWalk Edinburgh kicked off in Inverleith park with the beating of drums by the fabulous "Commotion!" In the last few years over 40,000 walkers have taken part in this event, raising in excess of £7.5 million for breast cancer causes in Scotland. It was wonderful to announce that just before the challenge started a grant of £1.5 million had been agreed with the Breast Cancer Institue, Edinburgh to be use to build a brand new operating theatre.

In our new location we had incredible views towards the Castle as thousands of bra clad walkers streamed through the entrance to the site.We spend a year organising the event so it's always an incredible experience to see everyone turning up!

Meanwhile behind the scenes teams of volunteers were already in the kitchens preparing all the pasta meals (organic of course!) that everyone receives. Coaches and the Ford sponsored "Bra Mobiles" were being sent out on the route to drop hundreds of them at key locations. And on the site groups were in place to hand out water, weather protectors or even apply one of our fab tattoos to faces, arms, backs and all sorts of other places

In the "Pink Palace" the Highland Swing was in full effect as our wonderful acts, The Elliot Murray Band and The Swing Cats took the stage with their mixture of blues, swing and jazz. The bands really got into the mood of the night and had an absolute blast...so much so that Ian from The Elliot Murray Band wrote a few things on our forum; you can read them here. As in previous years the night was hosted by Grant Stott and Arlene Stuart who kept the atmosphere going with their humour and irreverent banter!

I am 14 and I am from Chicago Illinois USA I walked the MoonWalk with some family friends from Scotland, It was so amazing seeing 10000 people come together to help for a very good cause. It was very liberating and I thank you Walk the Walk for putting on a race that made my visit to Scotland so enjoyable and a experience that I will never forget!

Speeches were made by Natalie Morris from Maggies, Elaine Anderson from BCI, Glenn Paxman from Paxman Coolers (they make the Scalp Coolers) and also the lovely Lorraine Kelly (returning for her 8th MoonWalk!) who lead the minutes silence.

We also showed a video about where the money is granted to in Scotland, which you can watch below

Meanwhile down at the start line everyone was ready to go, urging the clock to go that bit faster so they could start! But like everything we do, we had to make sure that everything was ready to go and after a last minute conversation with the police and our team, they were off! It's a wonderful sight...watching as thousands of walkers, over 3 starts head off into the night!!

Out through Edinburgh (avoiding the tram works!) the walkers went. Horns beeped, residents cheered, Chaplins Disco bus provided a welcome boost and the city, along with the Castle was lit in pink! WOW!

The Finish line was awash with tears, emotion and lots of hugging as walkers crossed the line! At around 11.30 the last lady received a huge welcome from everyone who was left on site. And then unusually, the sun really did begin to shine!

Thank you Edinburgh, we shall be back next year!
