Here are a list of all the most common questions that we get asked by our fabulous volunteers. Take a look and if you don't find what you are looking for then you can always get in touch with us here
Q. How do I become a volunteer?
A. Visit the volunteer registration page here to enter your details and join the team! We’ll also have versions of the form to post and email to you in January.
Q. Am I registered yet?
A. All registered volunteers will have received a welcome email to confirm their registration with us. There may be several reasons that you have not received it including your email manager’s spam settings or because Walk the Walk does not have your correct email address. If you are unsure please call the Volunteer team at Walk the Walk on 01483 741 430.
Q. What will I be doing, when should I arrive and where should I go?
A.Briefing packs including details of your individual job and arrival times will be sent to you a few weeks befor the big night. All volunteers are asked to report to the Volunteer Tent in Playtex City in Hyde Park.
Q. Can I collect sponsorship?
A. Yes, we would be delighted if you collect sponsorship – volunteering is challenging, rewarding and eminently deserving of fundraising. However we place no expectation on volunteers to raise sponsorship. Your commitment of time in support of vital breast cancer causes and thousands of walkers is invaluable to us.
Q. Can I volunteer, or bring someone with me to volunteer, 'on the night' ?
A. With regret, we can not accept volunteers who have not registered with us in advance, and we will not be registering anyone at the event. Please note that those not walking or registered to volunteer will not have access to the site.
Q. Will I be with my friends?
A. If you have told us the names of the friends you would like to volunteer with, then you will be placed in the same team. If, for any reason, we've put you in different teams please give us a call and we'll make the necessary changes.
Q. I can no longer volunteer.
A. Please let us know if you are unable to join us on the night by contacting us here
Q. What to bring, what to wear?
A. Check the weather forecast before you set off to be prepared. It’s better to wear plenty of layers to be comfortable whatever the temperature. Remember that it can be cold at night even when the weather is clear, and the early morning sunshine can be quite strong so don't forget your sun cream too.
All volunteers are given a t-shirt, cap and mac, all of these are in large sizes so that you can wear them over your own clothing. Please eat a proper meal before you arrive and we suggest that you bring some snacks to eat and a hot drink in a flask too if you are one of our route volunteers. Please bring your (fully charged) mobile phone if you have one.
Q. Will I be able to meet a walker when they finish?
A. If you have told us that you are coming with a walker we have done our best to put you in a role that will allow you to be finished and back on site in time to meet your friends when they cross the finish line.
Q. When does my job finish and how do I get back to Hyde Park?
A. Please let your team leader know if you need to leave your position at any time. Our volunteers out on the route will be returned to Playtex City in one of our official vehicles once their route section closes.
