Many, many thanks and a HUGE HUG to each and every one of our truly wonderful volunteers who turned up to a cold and damp Hyde Park to support The Playtex MoonWalk 2009. We couldn’t have done it without you
We are so grateful to you for all the hard work in every area of the event – from flapjack packing, volunteer registration, massaging, preparing and giving out food, drink, kit, medals and goody bags to route marshalling, cycling, driving, directing, handling the baggage, cleaning and recycling all those water bottles! We hope that a good time was had by all – while the night was cold it was a least dry and everyone on the overnight team enjoyed a glorious sunrise and blue skies on Sunday morning.
We have received lots of emails and message full of gratitude for your cheerful and enthusiastic support. so if you have something to add then please send them to us! Thank you again for donating your time to unite with us against breast cancer and please come back this year …

" The Pink Baggage Tent Story: What a great night! What a fantastic team! Most of the volunteers worked well beyond their allotted shifts, fuelled mainly by maltesers and popcorn. Highlights include the wee small hours raid for comfy chairs, and the subsequent discarded space blanket and lilo wrestling competition. The sight of grown women modelling garments created in foil will stay with me for a long time! And who would have imagined just how good hot porridge would taste at 2:30 in the morning. A complete revelation. It was an absolute pleasure to have been one of the orange shirted ones – and congratulations to all the walkers, who despite their obvious exhaustion thanked us for our help. Dear Amy,
I just called in on the phone and was advised to drop you an email directly as you coordinate the volunteers for the Moonwalk.
My name is Suzanne Rinaldo and my walker number is 14992. Yesterday, I was the last person across the line having completed the full 26.2 miles.
The only reason I managed the last few miles was due to three of the volunteers - I only have their first names - Julie, Debbie & Reg. They picked me up just after the 24th Mile and walked with me until the end. I was suffering from cramp in my calves and was low on salt and sugar. These guys practically carried me for the last stretch, let me stop as much as I needed and massaged my calves to get me going again. Not only that, they supplied me with blackcurrant juice, jaffa cakes and glucose tablets to get some energy into me. Their verbal encouragement and support was terrific and they are three very very special people.
They also raised the rest of the marshalling team that were there at the last few points and sang and cheered me into the finish.
The support of Julie, Debbie and Reg in particular was phenomenal and very humbling, particularly as I knew the reason that I was having problems was down to my insufficient preparation for the day (I had only done up to 20 miles in practice)
Even more spectacular was Reg himself - he actually waved £50 in cash at me and promised to add it to my sponsorship if I completed the full distance. This he duly did and discreetly passed it to my friend who was waiting for me at the finish line with no fuss. I was whisked away by the St John Ambulance guys and Julie, Debbie and Reg disappeared.
Today, I am very tired and achy but thrilled with my achievement and very grateful indeed to these three people. Without them I would most certainly have given up and would be feeling very down today. I have registered my interest for next year and have ordered my 'i did it' T shirt, which I will wear with the utmost pride.
Thanks also must go to everyone overall for such a great event. This was my first time and the organisation, atmosphere and support was incredible. What an amazing thing to be part of!
