Do you feel passionate about Walk the Walk?

Would you like to experience first hand what goes behind these amazing events? Have you got any spare time to offer? Then why not volunteer in our office in Woking?!

Our very much appreciated volunteers are the heart of our charity, offering their free time where it’s most needed, stuffing envelopes, filing, processing entry forms, phoning walkers if necessary. We are always in need of helping hands, so why not join our fantastic team and become part of the magic – in a very new way. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with some common sense and a positive, healthy outlook on life. Anything else you need for the job, we will teach you.

If you can spare as little as a couple of hours a week we would love to hear from you. Please phone Sally O or Polla on 01483 741430 or just complete and return an application form and we will be in touch. We are very much looking forward to meeting you!

Janet's story

Reaching the age of 60 I decided that I needed a challenge to prove my family that I wasn't completely 'past it.' I had previously taken part in 'Race for Life' with my sisters, but I needed something which I could do on my own, also I now have the time to train, to walk the miles. Over the years I had seen some ladies walking in the streets of London dressed in decorated bras. They all looked to be having a great time and I found out about Walk the Walk.

My first Full Marathon was in 2005 and I must admit I wasn't too sure about doing it on my own. I met Nina one Saturday up in Harrods and she told me that I wouldn't be doing it on my own for long. How right she was, I teamed up with another woman from Leicester and had a fantastic night.

My 2nd year was in 2006 when I took part with a friend, this time in the Half Moon as she could not manage the Full one. Again we had a super night, everyone was so friendly and it was so well organised.

I then found that the offices for Walk the Walk were only a short distance from home and I decided that as I am retired that I could spare 1 day a week to go and help the charity which is close to my heart, having been touched by family and friends with breast cancer. I have few office skills but I was soon put at ease by the friendly staff and now, after nearly 18 months, I really look forward to my weekly visit.

Eira's Story

I started my involvement with Walk the Walk by taking part in the Moonwalk in 2005. A friend had done it the previous year and said it was an amazing experience – great fun and a great way to get fit. It was both those things and also tougher than people think – never underestimate 26.2 miles!!

I did the Moonwalk again in 2006 and shortly afterwards my Mother was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. Suddenly, the Walk took on a whole different perspective for me personally. From being a fun event which raised money for a great cause it now became a way for me to do something positive to counter the effects of this awful disease. Even if it seemed too late to help my Mum, then hopefully I could help prevent my daughters and their generation from going through the same thing.

Having walked again in 2007, and entered the 2008 Moonwalk in October, I had to call the team and got chatting to lovely, bubbly Sally who asked me if I would like to help out in the office. As I live locally I jumped at the chance and now go in whenever I can. When I’m there I can be asked to do any one of a million different things – from helping to set up the Newcastle SunWalk, to breaking down cardboard boxes, updating data bases or stuffing envelopes. Whatever it is, its always fun as the people are so lovely and however small the task seems, it all helps towards the good work Walk The Walk do.
