What will I be doing, when should I arrive and where should I go?

Briefing packs including details of your individual job and arrival times will be sent to you at the end of May. All volunteers are asked to check in to the Volunteer Tent in MoonWalk City in Inverleith Park at a specific time.  Once you check in, you will find your team leader at one of the team meeting points outside the Volunteer Tent.

How do I get there and do you have a map?

The event site is Inverleith Park, Edinburgh

For more information please see here

What to bring, what to wear?

Check the weather forecast before you set off to be prepared.  It’s better to wear plenty of layers to be comfortable whatever the temperature.  Remember that it can be cold at night especially when the weather is clear, and the early morning sunshine can be quite strong so don't forget your sun cream too.

All volunteers are given a t-shirt, cap and rain mac - all of these are in large sizes so that you can wear them over your own clothing. Please eat a proper meal before you arrive and we suggest that you bring some snacks to eat and a hot drink in a flask too if you are one of our route volunteers. Please bring your (fully charged) mobile phone if you have one.

Will there be food and refreshments?

Yes, the Volunteer Café will be in full swing throughout the night providing snacks and hot drinks.  Please eat before you arrive though, and don’t forget to bring your own choice of snacks and hot drink with you (especially if you are a route marshal ).

Will I be able to meet a walker when they finish?

If you have told us that you are coming with a walker we have done our best to put you in a role that will allow you to be finished and back on site in time to meet your friends when they cross the  finish line.

When does my job finish and how do I get back to Inverleith Park?

Different roles finish at different times - route volunteers should consult their estimated walker times table for an idea of when the last walker is expected.  Please let your team leader know if you need to leave your position at any time and remember that it's hard to be precise about walker times.  Our route volunteers will be returned to Inverleith Park in one of our official vehicles once their route section closes.
