Do you have a few hours a week, or any time that you could spare? Would you like to experience first hand working within a charity and being a part of all that they achieve? Then why not join our special team of Volunteers in our Woking office!
Our Volunteers are a vital part of the charity, not only at our events but also here in our office, we would grind to a standstill without them. Offering their free time where it’s most needed, stuffing envelopes, filing, processing entry forms, phoning walkers if necessary. We are always in need of helping hands, so why not join our fantastic team and become part of the magic – in a very different way. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with some common sense and a positive, healthy outlook on life. We will put your skills to good use, and happily teach you new ones along the way!
If you can spare as little as a couple of hours a week we would love to hear from you. Please phone Sally or Kimberley on 01483 741430 or just complete and return an application form and we will be in touch very soon.
We really look forward to meeting you!
Reaching the age of 60 I decided that I needed a challenge to prove my family that I wasn't completely 'past it.' I had previously taken part in 'Race for Life' with my sisters, but I needed something which I could do on my own, also I now have the time to train, to walk the miles. Over the years I had seen some ladies walking in the streets of London dressed in decorated bras. They all looked to be having a great time and I found out about Walk the Walk.
My first Full Marathon was in 2005 and I must admit I wasn't too sure about doing it on my own. I met Nina one Saturday up in Harrods and she told me that I wouldn't be doing it on my own for long. How right she was, I teamed up with another lady from Leicester and had a fantastic night.
My 2nd year was in 2006 when I took part with a friend, this time in the Half Moon as she could not manage the Full one. Again we had a super night, everyone was so friendly and it was so well organised.
I then found that the offices for Walk the Walk were only a short distance from home and I decided that as I am retired that I could spare 1 day a week to go and help the charity which is close to my heart, having been touched by family and friends with breast cancer. I have few office skills but I was soon put at ease by the friendly staff and now, after nearly 5 years, I really look forward to my weekly visit.
Ihe latter half of 2009 was certainly not my best! I suddenly became single again and then received news that I was being made redundant. This was all put into perspective though when it was confirmed, 3 days before Christmas, I had breast cancer. I had my operation in January 2010, radiotherapy through February and March and a broken wrist in April! I almost changed my middle name to lucky! However, the reality was, that because of this period of misfortune I realised that I am …...... very, very, lucky indeed!
It’s fair to say I was on an emotional rollercoaster but at every turn my amazing family and friends were there for me; even those I regarded as acquaintances blew me away with their kindness. The love and support I received was totally overwhelming.
Words can never describe how grateful I was so my daughter and I decided to apply for the Moonwalk – maybe our contribution could help someone else? Sadly, we were far too late for London 2011 but whilst visiting the website I found out about Volunteering in the Office.
I was invited to come and meet everyone and that afternoon I started doing ‘my little bit’ - I absolutely love it. Everyone is so friendly and it doesn’t matter whether I’m filling envelopes, updating information or making calls, I know it is appreciated and is contributing to such a wonderful and necessary cause.
I learned of Walk the Walk through family friends who had participated in the Playtex MoonWalk, and all had nothing but wonderful things to say about the organization! I was eager to be more active in the public health field, and needed something I could fit in around my busy school schedule. Volunteering for Walk the Walk was the perfect solution, and has exceeded my expectations by far! Volunteers have the opportunity to work on a variety of small projects, and our work is always made to feel appreciated. My experience so far at Walk the Walk has been nothing but enjoyable, and I have learned a lot about the behind the scenes work of a successful charity.
I volunteered to help on the evening of The MoonWalk 2008 as I had previously been involved in a breast cancer walk and wanted to continue supporting a cause very close to my heart - without the blisters! I also volunteer one day a week for the wonderful Walk the Walk team at their H.O. in Woking. I can be doing anything from data entry to decorating a bra in pink feathers and I love every minute!
