Fran's Virgin London Marathon 2016

It’s the most amazing experience being involved in such a prestigious event and the support you receive from Walk the Walk is second to none.

My friends and family know that I like to throw myself in at the deep end, and when Walk the Walk offered me a charity place at this year’s London Marathon, it seemed that if I was going to challenge myself again then this was the very deepest of deep ends to throw myself into!

The marathon day was long and exhausting but possibly the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had. I’m not going to lie, there were aches, pains and mass waves of tiredness (a 5am start and 4 mile trek to the Start Line didn’t help!), but to see my friends and family and WTW crew along the way certainly gave me the “oomph” I needed!

Looking back, the marathon itself was not necessarily the hard part of the challenge. In the build up to the event itself I had the permanent guilt of knowing I shouldn’t be sitting on the sofa watching "Corrie", but hitting the tarmac and clocking up the miles in preparation.  During the long winter months in Scotland that is a trial in itself!  The second worry was ensuring I hit my fundraising target.  Fortunately, I have plenty of very generous colleagues, family and friends willing to support me and Walk the Walk through a variety of bake sales, car boot sales, afternoon teas and sales of pin badges.  I was overwhelmed at people’s generosity.

To anyone thinking of undertaking this challenge….do it!  It’s the most amazing experience being involved in such a prestigious event and the support you receive from Walk the Walk is second to none.

AND you get a shiny medal to boast incessantly about at the end of it!
