How three solo Walkers became the three amigos!

"Moonwalk 2022 was a night to remember! Starting as a lone wolf on my 3rd Moonwalk, I remember the feelings of excitement to be back in London again"

Nichola's story:

Moonwalk 2022 was a night to remember! Starting as a lone wolf on my 3rd Moonwalk, I remember the feelings of excitement to be back in London again, the anticipation building in Moonwalk city and the nervous giggling and chattering of the crowd as we waited to start but also the voices of doubt wondering if I could do it alone, without my husband physically behind me spurring me as he had done for this year’s training and last year’s virtual Moonwalk.

Nevertheless, with an 'Oggy! Oggy! Oggy!' we were off! Cars were tooting, people waving and applauding as the groups of bra clad ladies and men came walking past. I tried to follow groups of people to keep a good pace but as the night wore on, the groups were left behind and I found myself walking alone by the river heading towards Tower Bridge.

Looking ahead, I wondered if I could catch up with someone, but instead, I was just about to be caught myself! Passing two enthusiastic Marshalls offering sweets, I was halfway over the bridge, sweeties in hand, when a voice said "I've been trying to catch up with you, I guess you’re in your stride now."

Glancing around I saw a lady I had briefly spoken to as she took photos of Battersea Power Station earlier in the walk. From that moment on my walk changed, as we happily chatted as we walked over Tower Bridge. Neither of us knew that moments later, from being lone wolves we were about to become a pack as a third lady joined us just after stepping off the bridge!

We never looked back, step by step we continued our journeys together, sharing stories, laughing, listening, encouraging, and even just understanding the silence at times as we reflected on our reasons for taking part in the MoonWalk. Finally, we reached the finish line and made sure we crossed together, bonded by our shared experience and shared confidences.

These ladies were amazing and what a team we made together, a first time Moonwalker who had undergone hip surgery just two years ago, a regular 8 time MoonWalker, and me!  Together we shared a common goal and no one was being left behind until it was complete.

Thank you, Ladies, and thank you Walk the Walk for bringing us all together, your team is incredible not just on one day but every day!
