  3. Can men enter The MoonWalk?

YES! Men can Walk the Walk too but they don't get away with not wearing a bra as The MoonWalk is all about raising awareness and wearing a decorated bra is the Walk the Walk trademark and one of the reasons we manage to raise so much awareness and money for our vital causes!

  4. What is this years theme?

    'Holywood'!

  5. Can I run at The MoonWalk?

No. The MoonWalk is a Power Walking challenge and running is not an option. All marshals on the route are instructed to report any participants running and to advise them that this is a Power Walking only challenge.

Any participants running any part of the route will be asked to leave the course immediately and will not receive a medal.

  6. Can I use walking poles?

Due to the nature of the event and the number of people taking part, it is not possible for you to take part in The MoonWalk with your walking poles as this could lead to an unintentional injury of either yourself or others. Our volunteers on the route will ask you to hand over your poles, which will be returned to you on the finish line.

  7. Teams / Groups - all you need to know!

Please note: each person entering The MoonWalk Scotland requires a unique email address. This applies regardless of whether you are entering as an individual or entering as part of a team

Can I enter for someone else?

Yes – you may make an online entry for each member of the team, provided that you have their permission to provide the required information (including their unique email address) and accept the terms and conditions on their behalf. By completing the form you agree that all the information that you have given is correct.

At the end of each online entry form there will be an option to add another person.

A confirmation email will be sent to each person in the team. You can NOT use the same email address for more than one team member.

If you have completed your registration and want to add someone else to your team you will be unable to do this through your account. However, the new team member can set up an account and register making sure to put the same team name, spelt exactly the same, and the same estimated finish time as you. They will then be linked with you on our system.

How many people can be in a team?

As many as you like... from two and up! If you're applying online, there is no limit to the number of people you can apply for in one transaction - but don't forget any limits on your debit/credit card.

    How do we start together?

Please ensure that you all enter the same estimated Finishing Time and exactly the same Team Name – by doing so you should* all get the same start time and therefore be able to walk together.

How do we start together if some of the team are doing the half and others the full marathon?

The best way to ensure that you start together is to pick the slowest starting time for each of the challenges whilst filling in the form. So that's 8-10 hours for the Full and 5:30-6:30 hours for Half. Also, make sure you all insert the same Team name.

How does Walk the Walk treat Team names?

The only time that we make use of your Team name is when we are allocating starting groups. We do not use them for any other reason. E.g. if you send in your entry form after the rest of your team, we will not automatically associate your entry with their entry. You have to tell us the actual members of your team. If you do then we will do our best to ensure you start together. If you don't then... we won't!

*We will do our best to ensure you start in the same group. But we can't promise it!

How do I/we join an existing Team?

When you do your own entry form(s), make sure that you put the same Team Name and Estimated Time that your team mates have already used.

When you do your own entry form(s), make sure that you put the same Team Name and Estimated Time that your team mates have already used.

  8. What information do I need to enter the challenge?

There are a number of questions you will need to answer so please be prepared with the following information:

    • your personal details (including date of birth and a working email address)
    • please note: each person entering The MoonWalk London requires a unique email address. This applies regardless of you are entering as an individual or entering as part of a team
    • your choice of challenge
    • Team Name, if walking as part of a Team
    • an emergency contact name and phone number
    • your estimated finishing time
    • your bra size (cup and back)
    • your T-shirt size (we have tight and loose fit)
    • your choice of meal (organic vegetarian pasta or savoury rice)
    • your method of payment.

  9. What are the estimated finishing times

    The New Moon (6.55 miles)

    • 1:30 - 2:30 hours
    • 2:30 - 3:30 hours

    Full Marathon

    • 5 – 6.30 hours
    • 6.30 – 8 hours
    • 8 – 10 hours

    Half Moon:

    • 3 – 4 hours
    • 4 – 5.30 hours
    • 5.30 – 6.30 hours

    Over The Moon (52.4 miles)

    • 14 hours maximum from the time the first start leaves

    Please note:

If some of your team are taking on the Full Moon and some the Half Moon, it won't always be possible for you to start together. However if you select the equivalent times, we will do our best to keep you together.

E.g. 6.30-8 hours for Full equates to 4-5.30 hours for Half, similarly 5.30-6.30 hours on Half equates to 8-10 hours on Full.

  10. What types of bra are available?

The majority of our bras are underwired, and from the Wonderbra range. For some of the larger sizes, this cannot be guaranteed and we will send an alternative bra to you.

For our walkers who require a bra suitable for prosthesis or post-surgery, we have bras in a range of sizes with pockets on both sides.

  11. What bra sizes are available

    Underwired Bras:

These are the bra sizes we commonly have: however if you require a bra size that is not available, we suggest that you either decorate one of your own bras for maximum comfort or pick a bra size that is available and may be suitable for you. In all cases we will endeavour to send the bra size that you have requested. Up until 12 February 2018, we will accept requests to change bra size. After this date, please do make sure that you order the right size as NO changes will be possible. We will not be able to exchange bras once they have been sent out.

    30 D-G    32-36 A-G    38 B-G    40 D-E    42 D-DD

    Prosthesis Post-Surgery Bras:

We are able to get hold of many back sizes with cup size up to E (with pockets on both sides) and you will be able to specify your requirement on the form.

Up until 12 February 2018, we will accept requests to change bra size. After this date, please do make sure that you order the right size as NO changes will be possible. We will not be able to exchange bras once they have been sent out.

Top 5 tips for checking if you have a good fitting bra

Make sure that you get yourself measured! 8 out of 10 women in the UK are wearing the wrong sized bra. Walk the Walk recommend visiting Debenhams, House of Fraser, John Lewis or similar store and get professionally measured before choosing your bra for the challenge

    1. A common mistake is to wear a bra that is too big in the back and too small in the cup.  The back strap should fit firmly and securely around your ribcage and be level all the way around. If the strap is riding up at the back, you need to try a smaller back size.
    2. Your breast should be fully contained in the cup – even if you are wearing a lower cut style like a balconnet or a push up. If it’s bulging over the top (double boob effect), out at the sides or falling out underneath you need to try a larger cup size as this will be very uncomfortable and not a good look!
    3. The underwire should fit against your body and not the breast tissue.
    4. The centre gore (that’s the bit in the centre of the bra) should sit flat against your breastbone.
    5. And finally the shoulder straps should be adjusted every time you put your bra on to ensure good fit and support. The straps shouldn’t be digging in to your shoulders and leaving dents – this means you haven’t got a good fit and your bra isn’t supporting you properly around your ribcage.

  12. What are the T shirt sizes

Prior to the challenge you will be sent your Event Pack which will include your unique bra T-shirt! On the entry form, the following sizes are available

    Tight Fit

    Small 8-10
    Medium 12-14
    Large 16-18
    XL 20-22
    XXL 24-26

    Loose Fit

    Small 34-36" (8-10)
    Medium 38-40" (12-14)
    Large 42-44" (16-18)
    XL 46-48" (20-22)
    XXL 50-52" (24-26)
    XXXL 54-56" (28-30)

Please note that the loose fit T-shirts are quite generous!

You can change your size until the 12th February 2018 after which no changes will be possible.

  13. Age restrictions

  14. Entering 10-17 year olds

Some points to be aware of

An adult guardian (aged at least 18) must accompany any entrant aged between 10 and 17 years old for the duration of the challenge.

The guardian of the adolescent must enter into the challenge prior to the adolescent entering and for the same distance.

For schools or groups including entrants:

    a) under the age of 13 there must be a minimum ratio of 1 adult to 3 young people; and
    b) aged between 13 and 17 there must be a minimum of 1 adult to 5 adolescents.

You can use your own credit card if you are entering a 10-17 year old, i.e. it does not have to be in their name.

  15. I have a disability - can I enter?

Disabled entrants are welcome to take part, although due to the nature of the event we ask you to contact us (+44 (0)1483 741430) prior to filling in the entry form as people with some disabilities may not find the event feasible. Please be aware of the following:

    1. If the disabled entrant is successful in obtaining a place in the event, and requires assistance from another person, (or people) the helper will be guaranteed a place.
    2. If the number of support people exceeds 1, additional guaranteed places will be at the discretion of the organisers.
    3. Please note that those people assisting a disabled entrant will be required to pay the entry fee, but will not be required to raise sponsorship if they do not wish to.
    4.  In certain cases it will be possible for Walk the Walk to allow a change in the support person or people. Any request for a change in personnel must be notified to Walk the Walk. Once the event entry list has been closed and passed to the emergency services prior to the event no changes to entrants will be permitted.
    5. Due to the nature of the event we are unable to specify a particular starting point within the start line ups. However all due considerations in respect of Health and Safety will be given.

  16. I have a food allergy what are the ingredients of the pasta or rice?

  17. I took part in a previous MoonWalk but did not raise any money - can I still enter?

Well... it's never too late to send it in!

It is hard to believe, but over the past few years there have been a number of walkers who do not send us their fundraising when they have completed their MoonWalk. As a result they are taking much wanted places but are not supporting the charity by raising any money.

The aim of Walk the Walk is to unite against breast cancer and is dependent on everybody doing their bit no matter how small. Consequently we have taken the decision to give priority to walkers who have sent in their fundraising for past events and those who are joining Walk the Walk for the first time.

If our records show that you have not sent in any fundraising we will be in touch soon after you have received your confirmation email.
